HEAD POSITION

Head position

Head positioning is an essential part of wrestling. One needs to use every tool at ones disposal and ones head is a great tool. Do not get this confused with head butting that is a different tactic and used by the malicious wrestler. So head positioning is the placing of ones forehead in an optimal place on the opponents body to leverage oneself in a position of control. Forehead to forehead is considered neutral head position between opponents.

Some of the primary points of head positioning are.

1. When in ones neutral stance your chest and back must be in the appropriate position if your back is slouched over it greatly diminishes ones ability to use ones forehead. (see neutral staggered stance) ones head usually gets pushed down and beat on!!!!

2. Forehead to forehead is considered neutral head position between opponents.

3. Head positioning is the constant applied force to a particular point on the body of the opponent.

4. While tied up with ones opponent when head position readily comes into play forehead to temple, forehead to cheek ,fore head to lower jaw bone, forehead to neck, fore head to chest are all positions of control when in a tie up of some sort for example collar tie, over under, Russian tie.

5. Some other Primary points of head positioning are the Hip for a bow and arrow cradle, the upper shoulder pit for a head lever. The temple for the finish on the cross face cradle.

Head positioning is a highly effective technique. Neck muscle just don’t get strong by fighting off half nelsons they get strong by using the thing attached to them. Look at some Olympians you can tell how much they use there heads by the size of there neck.
